Years ago, I heard a great story. The speaker entitled her discourse, “Integrity of Design.” She told of an experience she had when shopping for household lighting. While browsing the showroom floor she happened upon a beautiful wooden lamp. She was excited to have found what she was looking for and imagined how beautiful the lamp would look in her home. Upon closer examination she discovered that it made a hollow and distinctively plastic sound when tapped upon. The speaker expressed frustration at being tricked, as the lamp was simply not what it pretended to be. The moral of her story was simple, we should to be the same on the inside as we are on the outside. We need to “live our brand.”

An excellent of example of living a brand can be found at “http://www.jeffturner.info.” Spend a few minutes on any of Jeff Turner’s websites and you will find a carefully cultivated brand. Jeff knows people, he understands packaging and he has excellent communication and marketing skills. However, the absolute best thing about the Jeff Turner brand… is that it is real. I have had the unique privilege of working with Jeff professionally and getting to know him personally. Whether you are a consultant, a colleague or someone Jeff bumps into on the street, you can expect, “what you see, to be what you get.” You can expect to be treated with courtesy and respect.

Whether you call it your brand, your reputation, your “street cred”, or integrity. “Living your brand,” means minding the gap between what you practice and what you preach. – Russ
