Countdown to iPad – Ultimate Sales Kit (Use Case 7)
Sunday 21 February 2010 - Filed under gaps + mobile + Technology
Finding the right mix of salesperson and technology is a challenge. Give sales people only desktop computers and they’re further tied to the office when they should be out selling. Give them a laptop and they toss it around or end up leaving it on the dashboard in the sun.
Enter the ultimate sales kit, the iPad. Right out of the box it’s ready to go – no trip to Apple’s App Store required. The iPad comes standard with everything they need to get started quickly:
1. Contact (Basic customer list management)
2. Mail (Email correspondence with the customer)
3. Calendar (Scheduling appointments)
4. Maps (Getting to the appointments)

But… you can do this with an iphone, an android phone, a blackberry… Why do you NEED an iPad for this?

Often salespeople need their phone up to their ear while looking at their calendars, contacts, etc. Additionally, the iPad can be even a greater sales tool iPad as Sales Kit II.

As a real life salesman, this use case is just the tip of the iceberg…too simplistic. The use of the iPad can be much more “mission critical” to a salesperson. Here are some random additional uses:
- managing progress through the sales process – what sales stage? what probability of success? what next step?
- organization charts – who’s connected to who? who is in the primary sphere of influence – who is a influencer? – who is a decision maker?
- CRM entries – attempts, contacts, call notes, meeting notes, etc
- Quotation/Proposal builder
- Order entry
- Forecasting / Funnel management
I could keep going…many, many ways the iPad can be mission critical for a sales professional.
